17yo Haden is on her way to the hottest music festival with her best friend and band mate Kizi - heading towards what is hopefully their big break. Wouldn’t you know it - in the middle of nowhere, Haden’s car not only breaks down, but their savior is Deacon - her now famous nemesis from her disastrous appearance on Little Stars four years earlier. And who is Deacon’s latest band member? Cairo, the girl Haden liked, but who left them behind. And things only get worse when they realize they are stranded in the middle of even more nowhere and their only refuge is a creepy old house that seems familiar from rumors of a disastrous party decades ago.
The set up is complicated and things don’t get any simpler as you read. And they don’t get any safer, either, as we get flashbacks to that long ago soiree that ended in several murders. Kids who want a horror story that ends in more horror will enjoy this. I prefer my horror to get its comeuppance.
