Kate Banks does a great job
of grasping the attention of the reader. A younger version or pre-read of The
Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, this is an analogous story. You find yourself on a
journey with Baz as he discovers the world around him. Baz lives in a small village with his
poor family. He is enticed into a
journey with some men into the desert promising him a good job. He finds the men dishonest and is sold
as a slave. His master then trades
him for a sword. This story is
great application for the struggles of life.
I found the book itself to be well
written and easy to understand. I rate it PG because at one point Baz has to
shoot a dog with a gun because the dog is badly wounded. Also the first slave master is
described as being neglectful and violent. The book was an enjoyable read.
