Story Herriot (17yo) is just finishing her senior year of high school. Her mother is in the diplomatic corps, and they live in Rome together. Story is introverted and a little anxious, and does not fit in with the other "dip" kids. After being mistaken for Jasmine, a famous singer, Story agrees to participate in a fake relationship with Scottish heartthrob Luca Kinnaird to protect his secret relationship with Jasmine. Together, they see all the wonderful and little-known parts of Rome. As they spend time together, Luca begins to shed some of his bad boy ways, and Story learns to come out of her shell and enjoy life more. The line between what is true and what is fake gets a little blurry the more they see of each other. Things get a little messy as Jasmine gets jealous and Story gains more followers on social media. The lies start to threaten to catch up with them. Will the lies destroy what they are building together?
A sweet and charming romance. I loved reading about some of the lesser-known sites in Rome. I also loved the references and parallels to classic movies such as Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's. The story was a little predictable, but fun all the same. It is a clean romance with very few swear words.
Story and Luca are white.
