Appelt, Kathi.  Mogie:
The Heart of the House, illustrated by Marc Rosenthal.  Atheneum (Simon & Schuster),
2014.  $17.99.  PICTURE BOOK.
Based on a true story about the Ronald McDonald House in
Houston and the dog Mogie who lives there.
There is a special house for kids who are sick and their families.  A little boy named Gage used to be very
active, but then he became sick.  There
was a pup who tried to be a service dog, search and rescue, and even the show
ring; but he wasn’t well behaved.  He
broke rules and loved to have fun.  He
came to the special house and found Gage sitting in a wheelchair.  He helped Gage get his mojo back.  Gage got well and went home, but there are always
sick kids who need a friend to help them get better.  Part of the proceeds of the book go back to
help Mogie and all the kids at Ronald McDonald House Houston.  This is a good story with bright and colorful
illustrations on the serious topic of children’s illness and what one dog has
done to help.
EL-ADVISABLE.
