Little Red Rolls Away by Linda Whalen - OPTIONAL

Whalen, Linda   Little Red Rolls Away  Illustrated by Jennifer E. Morris. Unpaged. Sleeping Bear Press, 2017. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK

Red is a small traditional-looking red barn who awakes one morning to find all his animal friends gone, as well as all his hay and tools. Then from outside, gears rumble. He is surrounded by metal monsters (trucks) which begin the work of raising him from his foundation, transporting him over roads, across a river, and past a city, to a new location beside another kind of metal monster (a roller coaster) to be a petting farm in an amusement park.

With human eyes, the emotional difficulty of the move is shown on the barn's face. The back page confirms the theme by providing additional information about how to help a child navigate change. The idea that people can actually relocate a building may be interesting to kids, as well as all the depictions of trucks, barges, and different roads.
