A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas and Trina Hyman - ADVISABLE

Thomas, Dylan A Child's Christmas in Wales, illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. 47 pgs. Holiday House Publishing, 2017. $14.95. Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: G. 978-0823438709

In classic Dylan Thomas prose, the famed poet retells memories of his childhood Christmases. Told in an almost stream-of-consciousness manner, the text reads as something you'd prefer to hear read aloud. It is a nice "back in my day" look at a bygone era with beautiful illustrations throughout. It was first published in 1954. I do not think this is a book that will appeal to most younger readers; the text gets "flowery" and "wordy" at numerous points and some of the bits would make little sense to 21st century audience. Perhaps your higher level high schooler would pick it up, but overall its a great gift choice for adults. The illustrations, I'll note again, are on point and really add a lot to the story.
