Through the Gate by Sally Fawcett - ADVISABLE

Fawcett, Sally Through the Gate, PICTURE BOOK EK Books, 2017, $17.99. Content: G.

A little girl has moved into a ‘new’ - well, it’s rather run down and in need of repair - house.  She is sad about the move and that she doesn’t have any friends, but each week she stops at the gate of the house and notices that “something was different.”  Each week as the house improves, so does her mood. Eventually she has made a friend, skips to school and is happy.

Change is hard on everyone, this book shows that it takes time before you feel better.  The story doesn’t tell the reader what changes were made to the house.  Like the girl, you have to look to see the changes.  But the girl’s changes are inside, so the text uses colorful words to describe - plodded, wandered, marched.
