The Christmas Fairy by Anne Booth - ESSENTIAL

Booth, Anne The Christmas Fairy.  PICTURE BOOK.  Illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw.  Nosy Crow (Candlewick), 2017.  $16.

Clara wants very bad to be a Christmas Fairy at the stop of a stately tree, but she knows she has to be quiet and still and dignified for such a role.  Clara, though, loves to giggle and whirl and sing, so she is very sad when she realizes that she may not be able to perform the task.  Then comes along Santa - he needs a very different kind of fairy to save the Christmas show and he knows that Clara is just the one.  Can Clara be a that kind of fairy?

With her crazy curly hair, Clara is adorable.  I fell in love with her and with Beardshaw’s illustrations in general.  And the message that quiet, still, and dignified is not the only way to be helpful and important is a timely message.
