I Saw an Anaconda by Jane Clarke -ADVISABLE

Clarke, Jane I Saw an Anaconda, PICTURE BOOK. Nosy Crow (Candlewick), 2016. $15.

This book features a repetitive rhyming scheme as an anaconda eats. First he eats a tick, but it hops so much it makes him feel sick. Then it eats one creature after another in order to catch the prior creature. Readers must wait to find out if the Anaconda will get sick. Pages feature lift the flap and popups.

This book will be great fun for young readers given the plot and the rhyming. The pages are big enough to share with a group and could even be an very basic introduction to the food chains. My only complaint is that I wish the food chain used was way more obvious for younger readers, for example a skink is used as one of the animals, which many children may be unfamiliar with.
