Raybot and Weebot by Adam Watkins - ESSENTIAL

Watkins, Adam F. Raybot and Weebot. PICTURE BOOK. Price Stern Sloan (Penguin), 2017. $17.99.

Raybot is a robot who lives in a junkyard with this two best friends--Parrot and Puppy. Their quiet lives are changed the day a new robot is dropped off at the junkyard. Weebot is a "younger" robot and Raybot is initially thrilled about the new addition, but quickly gets tired of Weebot's energy, noise and inability to know when to stop! Raybot tries to give the little robot away one day, but immediately regrets it and realizes he would miss having Weebot around. The two robots reunite and Raybot learns to appreciate Weebot.

I enjoyed this story that will connect with any reader who finds the addition of a new sibling to be a tough transition. The text is a good length for a read-aloud but nothing special in how it tells the story. It is the illustrations that are the real stars of this book--they have a fantastic style and color that will be attractive to young readers and adults alike. Overall this is a great new book for any library.
