While Luis's brother is off working with the army, Luis spends his time painting his brother's adventures on the walls outside his home. Others join in, and soon they have a colorful mural to brighten up the neighborhood. Still, Luis's heart is sad. Will he ever see his brother again?
Children who have family members in the military will likely understand Luis's plight and may take solace in watching how he deals with the loneliness. The use of art to soothe sorrow is a lovely coping mechanism that many students could benefit from.
