What's Your Favorite Color? by Eric Carle and Friends -- ESSENTIAL

What's Your Favorite Color? Carle, Eric and Lauren Castillo, Bryan Collier, Mike Curanto, Etienne Delessert, Anna Dewdney, Rafael López, William Low, Marc Martin, Uri Shulevitz, Philip C. Stead, and Melissa Sweet. PICTURE BOOK. Godwin Books (Henry Holt & Co.), 2017.

In this nonfiction collection, fifteen different children's book illustrators explain their favorite color along with an accompanying illustration featuring said color.

It is interesting to read each illustrator's rationale for his or her favorite color, and the variety of artwork and writing styles adds even more character to each section. I could see using this entire book in a lesson (or lessons) on illustrations and illustrators, or showing one spread at a time as background when studying a particular illustrator. It would also work well in an art class -- perhaps with children responding to the book by doing their own spread explaining and demonstrating their favorite colors. So many possibilities!
