Blue Ethel by Jennifer Black Reinhardt -- ESSENTIAL

Reinhardt, Jennifer Black Blue Ethel. PICTURE BOOK. FSG (Macmillan), 2017. $17.99.

Ethel is an old kitty who is set in her ways, so when she accidentally rolls in sidewalk chalk and turns her white fur blue, she panics. She's used to how she looks; can she possibly change that now?

I love this picture book about creativity, trying new things, and finding friends. The story would make for some excellent classroom discussion, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Honestly, I can't wait to share this one with my students during this upcoming school year. Those who enjoy this one may also like Peggy: A Brave Chicken on a Big Adventure by Anna Walker.

I sort of want to name my next dog Ethel, but I had a great aunt with that name and my parents would be really mad! Looks like a fun book.

LOL! That was my exact thought with the name Stella -- great-aunt and all!
