The Battlemage by Tara Matharu - ADVISABLE

Matharu, Taran The Battlemage (Summoner #3), 367 pages.  Feiwel & Friends (Macmillan), 2017.  $19.

Language: PG (16 swears, 0 ‘f’); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG-13 (lots of battle scenes).

Fletcher and his classmates have rescued his mother, Lady Alice, but they are stuck in the ether.  Not only are they surrounded by enemy demons, but if they don’t find a source of the petals that protect them from the deadly effects of the ether death is inevitable.  Should they fight their way out, they will still have to contend with their human enemies in Hominum and find a way to carve out a home with adversaries on every side.

Teen fans of epic fighting fantasy will not be disappointed.  While it doesn’t have as much structure as Robert Jordan or Terry Brooks, it’s a great next series for John Flanagan or Joseph Delaney fans.  Lots of raging battle scenes with imminent destruction and little bit of story to hold it all together.
