I Dare You Not to Yawn by Helene Boudreau - ESSENTIAL

Boudreau, Helene I Dare You Not to Yawn, illustrated by Serge Bloch. BOARD BOOK. Candlewick Press, 2017. $8.99.

The problem with a yawn is that it is mighty contagious and yawning leads to all sorts of things that eventually lead to bed. The young narrator of the book explains to the reader the dangers of yawning and offers suggestions on how to avoid it--like avoiding bedtime stories, sleepy-time songs, and especially covering a yawn up to keep it from escaping!--so you don't suddenly find yourself in bed wondering, "How did I get here?"

This little book had me grinning from the start. Its a funny tale that is extraordinarily easy to relate to for any child who likes to avoid bedtime or nap time. The narrator's voice is very childlike and written in such an engaging way that readers will find themselves yawning--and avoiding yawning!--the whole way through. Its the perfect choice for a toddler's bedtime book.

Pre-K--ESSENTIAL. Reviewer: TC
