Waiting for Snow by Marsha Diane Arnold, illustrated by Renata Liwska - ADVISABLE

Arnold, Marsha Diane.  Waiting for Snow, illustrated by Renata Liwska.  PICTURE BOOK.  Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt, 2016.  $14.99.  Content: G.
Badger is ready for it to snow.  He and his friends, bang pots to wake up the sky.  They throw pebbles.  They do a special snow dance.  Possum tries wearing his pajamas backwards.  Badger sees white flakes and thinks its snow, but it’s just his friends making snow.  Their teacher explains that sometimes flowers come early and sometimes they bloom late, but we have to wait.  So, Badger waited and waited and waited until it finally snowed.

The illustrations were drawn with pencil and colored digitally and have a unique look.  The colors are primarily earthy brown and gray tones.  The characters have expressive faces.  The story is very relatable to young children who are waiting for it to snow.  The weather is not always predictable, but if they are patient, winter always comes.
