Princess Tales Around the World adapted by Grace Maccarone - OPTIONAL

Maccarone, Grace   Princess Tales Around the World: Once Upon a Time in Rhyme with Seek-and-FInd Pictures  Illustrated by Gail de Marcken. 32 pages. Feiwel and Friends (imprint of Macmillan), 2017. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK

Maccarone retells ten fairy tales from various cultures, such as Rapunzel from Europe, The Firebird from Japan, and Scheherazade from the Middle East. The tales are told in rhyming couplets on one or two spreads, accompanied by intricate illustrations that also include hidden seek-and-find objects. The book includes a table of contents and source notes, but I would like to have seen more information about the origin of each story. I found the text to be too short on clarity at times and annoyingly sing-songy too often, but kids will be drawn to the book by the promise of princesses in the title, the list of hidden objects to find on each page, and a collection of short stories that will expand their fairy tale repertoire.
