One Trick Pony by Nathan Hale - ADVISABLE

Hale, Nathan  One Trick Pony, 127 pgs.  Amulet Books, 2017.  $14.95.  Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence PG.  GRAPHIC NOVEL

Nathan Hale takes a break from his non-fiction Hazardous Tales series to branch out into a futuristic sci-fi story.  The world has been invaded by aliens that eat technology.  Three teens, who have gone off on their own to scavenge for technology before the aliens get to it, find a huge underground stash that includes a magnificent robot pony.  Unfortunately the technology alerts the aliens, who also eat human limbs.  The teens are in a race for their lives as they try to outrun the aliens and escape a faction of outlaws, while keeping their caravan of digital rescuers safe.  The pony may just be the key they need to fight back.

Nathan Hale bring back his signature humor, and his art, all done in yellows and grays, advances the story line.  The ending seemed a bit abrupt, but it was a fun ride getting there.  This is a quick read that will have you rooting for the main characters as they race to get out of the alien hot zone.
