Dear Dragon by Josh Funk -- ADVISABLE

Funk, Josh Dear Dragon, illustrated by Rodolfo Montalvo. PICTURE BOOK. Viking (Penguin Random House), 2016. $16.99. Content: G.

Blaise is a dragon and George is a human -- but neither one knows about their differences as their two classes begin letter-writing projects. Throughout the year the pen pals send rhyming notes to each other. Misinterpretations abound as each assumes the other is the same type of animal he himself is. But when they meet face-to-face, they discover that a dragon and a human can be friends.

The message in this one is terrific. If used for a class read-aloud, this would be a good one for a discussion on point-of-view or on rhyming. I only wish the storyline were a little clearer; I fear children may become confused about the plot and characters without some adult input.
