Magnets Push Magnets Pull by David Adler -ADVISABLE

Adler, David Magnets Push Magnets Pull PICTURE BOOK. 32 pgs. Holiday House, 201. $16.95

EL(K-3) –ADVISABLE

This book explains magnets in a simple and easy to understand way. It features a plethora of easy to do experiments that illustrate the various properties of magnets such as their magnet field and north and south. Its focus is on simple magnets though it provides a brief explanation of electromagnets. Lots of cute and bright illustrations would make it easy to share with a class.

The younger grade teachers at my school are always looking for great picture books that illustrate scientific concepts. I do tend to prefer those that include a simple story as well as the explanations, and this book is not one of those. This would be a great for a teacher to read a bit then stop and have the students do what the children in the book are doing. The explanations and examples are clear enough that a student reader would still enjoy this book on their own.
