Lowriders to the Center of the Earth by Cathy Camper - ADVISABLE

Camper, Cathy Lowriders to the Center of the Earth, illustrated by Raul The Third. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Chronicle Books, 20146. $9.99 Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

Lupe, FlapJack and EliRio are back! This time, Genie, their cat is missing, sp they climb into their lowrider and start looking.  Their search leads them to the Aztec underworld, where Mictlantecuhtli is holding Genie prisoner.  The friends must pass several challenges, including Coyote, La Llorona - who thinks flapjack is one of her children -, a chupacabra, and El Cucuy, before challenging the god of the underworld to a Lucha Libra.  Again, their fancy souped up car helps save the day.

A fun lesson in the Aztec religion, lots of skeletons and eyeballs. I’m grateful for the author’s note at the end, also includes a glossary.  The art is red, black, blue and green ball point pen. My graphic novel readers will love this!
