nine, ten: A September 11 Story by Nora Baskin - ESSENTIAL

Baskin, Nora Raleigh nine, ten: A September 11 Story. 188 pages. Atheneum. 2016. $16.99. Language: G (0 swears, 0 "f"); Mature Content: G;

Sergio, Will, Naheed, and Aimee don't know each other, but their lives are unknowingly intertwined. On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 a.m., when a plane struck the World Trade Center, the world changed. A few days before that happened, these four characters are going about their lives as normal in different parts of the country. Nora Raleigh Baskin does an excellent job of bringing the historic September 11th to life. She makes it personal through the stories of the children and families that experienced that day firsthand.

Those that enjoy the I Survived series, will also enjoy this historical fiction read. As an educator, I feel the storyline is captivating, educational, and yet teaches the importance of the events in a sensitive way. It is a great choice as a read aloud or one that you could feel comfortable recommending.

Cindy..thank you for such a thoughtful and kind review. I do think Nine, Ten makes a great read out loud..and in fact, I've recorded myself reading it on google docs. Free to anyone who wants to use it in their classroom. But again, thank you reading, caring about the students in your school. Librarians Rock!
