The Whale in My Swimming Pool by Joyce Wan- OPTIONAL

Wan, Joyce. The Whale in My Swimming Pool, PICTURE BOOK. Farrar Straus Giroux, 2015. $17.99. Running to swim in your own kiddie pool in the summer is one of the most fun parts of childhood. When one little goes outside to do that at his own house, he is surprised to find a gigantic whale in his pool. He does whatever he can to get rid of it. He pushes, tries to play games, and asks questions. He even tries to use a crane. Finally, he solves his problem by using the Whale’s blow hole to float in his tube. After a long day of swimming, he runs inside to his bedroom to find a bear in his bed. The illustrations in this book are bubbly and colorful and have a great animated feel. I just wish the story were a little bit better. So much more could have been done with the premise. PRE-K, K-3- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, School Librarian
