Little Butterfly by Laura Logan- ADVISABLE

Logan, Laura Little Butterfly. HarperCollins Publishers, 2016. $14.99. WORDLESS PICTURE BOOK. This is a beautifully illustrated book about a little girl who helps rescue an injured butterfly and is then taken on an amazing journey in return.  The book is sweet, simple and wordless.  It isn’t until you read the author’s note at the back of the book that the meaning of this book truly comes to life.  Logan states: “For me, no creature symbolizes growth and change like a butterfly.  But what monarchs do every fourth generation is even more astonishing.  The butterflies embark on a daunting migratory journey across North America.  Their resilience in migrating such long distances is awe-inspiring.”  This story is about the kindness of one person resulting in that kindness being returned to her in abundance.  Aseop: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” This is a beautifully illustrated,  sentimental book that could be the springboard for many discussions about how we treat other’s in the world in which we all live.  Pre-K.  EL(K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: SL.
