Green John Patrick Hippopotamister, 84 pgs. First Second, 2016. $17.99. Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G  GRAPHIC NOVEL
Hippopotamister and Red Panda live in a run down zoo. Turns out that Red Panda has been leaving everyday and going out into the real world and having an awesome time. Finally Hippo goes too and the pair get a job. It doesn’t quite work out and so they get job after job. Finally they realize that the best job is right in their own back yard. Features easy format graphic novel style artwork.
I liked this book a lot, its both sweet and wholesome. The animals go on a fun adventure that features tons of jobs that student readers will recognize. The ending is a good life lesson for us all. The art style is bright and engaging. I would peg with as perfect for 1-2nd graders, even though it’s a big long, its mostly illustrations.
