Bera the One-Headed Troll by Eric Orchard -ADVISABLE

Orchard, Eric Bera the One-Headed Troll, GRAPHIC NOVEL. First Second, 201. $17.99. Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G
This graphic novel is the story of a pumpkin growing troll named Bera and her good friend the owl. They find a human baby who is in grave danger from the witch Cloote. They decide to take a journey to find a human village to leave the baby at. Bera thinks some ancient heroes might be able to help them out, together they meet all kinds of creatures like trolls, rats, monsters.
There was an epic feel to this adventure with memorable characters, an interesting journey and heart. I would rate this as essential except for the artwork. On the cover is just stunning, both intriguing and lush, but inside its only tonal browns and very very boring. For purchasing graphic novels for the school library I think both the plot and the art are important. Too creepy and dark for younger elementary but older readers will enjoy it for sure.
