The Secrets of Hexbridge Castle by Gabrielle Kent - ADVISABLE

Kent, Gabrielle The Secrets of Hexbridge Castle, 336 pages.  Scholastic Press, NOVEMBER 2016.  $17.

Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence; PG (fantasy battle).

One day Alfie, 11, is looking at a long, lonely summer.  The next he finds that he has inherited the castle above the village where his cousins live – the very castle inside which he was born.  Something is stalking Alfie – something that has been waiting a very long time to get access to the magic Alfie has just sworn to protect.  He will need the help of a magic bear rug (think flying carpet and so much more) and his cousins to save himself, the village, and the magic from an enemy that has laid in wait a long time.

Hooray for delicious first books!  Its still hard to sell students on books that aren’t part of an established series, but this one is worth the effort.
