The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, retold by Laura Driscoll, illustrated by Migy Blanco - ADVISABLE

Kipling, Rudyard.  Retold by Laura Driscoll.  The Jungle Book, illustrated by Migy Blanco.  Harper, 2016.  $17.99.  PICTURE BOOK.
With the release of Disney’s live action movie of The Jungle Book, this retold picture book is a timely and gentle version for young readers.  Beautifully illustrated and simply told, Mowgli learns the languages of the animals and ways of the jungle from his friends Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther.  When Mowgli was little, he was chased into a wolf den by Shere Khan the tiger.  Mother Wolf adopted him as her own.  The wolves accepted him, but Shere Khan was still his enemy.  Mowgli goes to the human village to get fire and defends himself from the tiger.  In the end, he leaves to return to humans, but not without promising to visit his animal friends.

This book would be great to read aloud with just the right amount of text per page.
