One day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree by Daniel Bernstrom - ESSENTIAL

Bernstrom, Daniel One day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree, pictures by Brendan Wenzel.  PICTURE BOOK.  Katherine Tegen (HarperCollins), 2016.  $18.

A little boy is playing in the jungle when he gets gobbled up by a snake, thinking quickly, he entices the snake to eat more and more, until his stomach is much too full to hold anything!

In the tradition of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, Bernstrom has written a new folktale – I just wished the infectious rhyme included an actual song, instead of leaving the melody up to the reader.  Maybe the author only wanted to create the rhythm and not a song, but a song would really sell this rollicking rhyme.  You can see the youtube video here.
