The Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy by M.A. Larson - ESSENTIAL

Larson, M. A. The Shadow Cadets of Pennyroyal Academy (Pennyroyal #2), 355 pages.  Putnam (Penguin), 2016.  $17.  Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

Princess Cadet Evie has endured summer vacation with her dragon family, but she is most eager to return to Pennyroyal Academy for another year of princess training.  While paying a short visit to Demetra’s family, though, she witnesses three princess (?!) attacking and murdering an innocent villager.  When she arrives at the Academy, she tries to tell the headmistress, but  no one seems to be listening.  Year two of training is no sinecure; in fact, it is more dangerous than the year before.  And Evie’s friendships seem to be falling apart, just as she needs her friends most.  With the Witch’s Night challenge approaching swiftly, Evie has to make some bold moves to save her friendships and to save the entire Academy.

Wow!  I would not want to attend this princess academy!  The instructors are ruthless when it comes to culling the students down!  Larson weaves an awesome tale of danger.  Put this in the hands of Shannon Hale fans immediately.
