I am Princess X by Cherie Priest - ESSENTIAL

Priest, Cherie I am Princess X, graphic art illustrations by Kali Ciesemier.  240 pgs. Arthur A Levine (Scholastic), 2015.  $18.99.  Language: PG (17 swears, 0 ‘f’); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

May and her best friend Libby created a character they named Princess X when they were in 5th grade - they wrote stories and drew pictures and had a closet full of art and books they made over the years.  But then Libby and her mother are killed in a terrible accident and Libby’s dad moves away sending everything to Goodwill.  May can’t believe Libby is dead - won’t believe it actually, and then one day May notices a sticker in a store window - it’s this character, Princess X! Is Libby alive? Perhaps she’s in danger.  Only May can follow the clues to find out the truth.

This is a great mystery.  Very exciting and timely.  The graphic novel sections tell a great “other”l story, and just enough to keep the reading guessing, too.  Boys will love this as much as the girls do, the characters are late teens, so it will be of interest to both middle and high school.  Don’t hesitate to buy this for your library.
