Friends by Aiko Ikegami- OPTIONAL

Ikegami, Aiko. Friends, PICTURE BOOK. Albert Whitman and Company, 2016. Starting at a new school is hard. When one little girl goes to a new school, she doesn’t have anyone to eat lunch with and she is so lonely. Luckily, some animal friends come to join her and after that, the kids come over too. One day, someone else new comes to school. An alien from a different planet, has arrived and the little girl helps him become less lonely too. I liked this book up until the end. I understand where the author was going by adding the alien to the story, but it just seemed to be a bit unnecessary to me and didn’t make as much sense. It’s a relatable concept for kids, but wasn’t an outstanding book. PRE-K, K-3- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, High School Librarian
