Dr. Seuss: The Great Doodler by Kate Klimo -- ESSENTIAL

Klimo, Kate Dr. Seuss: The Great Doodler, illustrated by Steve Johnson, Lou Fancher, and Ted Geisel. EARLY READER. Random House, 2016. $12.99. Content: G.

This biography shows how Theodor Geisel became Dr. Seuss. It includes rare works by Geisel himself, as well depictions of the man and his life (done by the illustrators). The many fascinating facts presented provide interesting details about Geisel himself, as well as quite a few of his most popular works. While a thicker biography might be more inclusive, this one is the perfect heft for younger readers. Would be inspiring to share with an art class, on Dr. Seuss's birthday, or during a biography unit. It would also make a great complement to historical studies of World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and others.
