Don't Throw it to Mo by David Adler - ADVISABLE

Adler, David Don’t Throw it to Mo, illustrated by Sam Ricks. EARLY READER. Penguin Group, 2015, $14.99. Content: G.

Mo loves football so much, his mom wakes him up by throwing a pass to him, which he jumps out of bed to catch.  Mo plays on a football team.  He is the smallest of the players and spends most of the game sitting by the coach.  The other team calls him butterfingers because he drops the ball coach throws to him.  Little do they know, that ball was covered in butter so Mo could practice holding onto the ball.  Maybe Mo is the coach’s secret weapon.

This level 2 reader tells a simple story with a great message.  The illustrations are a perfect fit to the text; Mo’s feet hardly ever touch the ground.  Such a fun book, and Penguin has clearly marked it for young readers to read on their own.
