Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson - ADVISABLE

Jamieson, Victoria Roller Girl, GRAPHIC NOVEL.  240 pgs Penguin (Dial), 2015. $20.99. Language: PG (crude nickname 0 swears, 0 Fs) Mature Content: G; Violence: PG (Roller Derby)

Astrid and Nicole are best friends and do everything together, but when Astrid signs up for Roller Derby camp, and Nicole doesn’t because she wants to go to dance camp, their friendship seems to be in trouble.  Afraid that her mom won’t let her go to roller camp alone, Astrid doesn’t tell about Nicole’s plans, walks (and eventually skates) home, and feels more and more alone as Nicole’s new friend Rachel convinces Nicole to ignore Astrid at school once Junior High begins.

Full of teen girl drama and the excitement of roller derby, this title will be loved by the “Sisters” and “Smile” crowd.  A fast paced, well told and illustrated story about believing in yourself and not giving up.
