Miss Hazeltine's Home for Shy and Fearful Cats by Alicia Potter -- ADVISABLE

Potter, Alicia Miss Hazeltine's Home for Shy and Fearful Cats, illustrated by Birgitta Sif. PICTURE BOOK. Alfred A. Knopf (Penguin Random House), 2015. $16.99. Content: G.

When Miss Hazeltine opens her Home for Shy and Fearful Cats, she's not sure any felines will come. But come they do. Not only is it a safe haven, but they can engage in lessons on climbing up (then climbing down), not being afraid of brooms, and withstanding scary nosies. But when Miss Hazeltine goes out for milk and doesn't return, the cats know they need to overcome their own fears to save her.

This picture book is adorable and is likely to appeal those who have even a passing familiarity with feline antics. The illustrations are especially fun -- detailed and humorous, they make the perfect complement to the text. Best of all, watching Miss Hazeltine and her cats overcome their fears (or at least shove them aside for a while) may inspire children who have fears of their own.
