Cloud Country by Bonny Becker, concept and pictures by Noah Klocek - ADVISABLE

Becker, Bonny.  Cloud Country, concept and pictures by Noah Klocek.  Disney Hyperion, 2015.  $17.99.  PICTURE BOOK.

Gale is a cloud that loves to gaze down at earth, but she can’t today because she has her cloud formation test.  She was worried because she could never get her formations right.  Her cumulonimbus cloud looked like an elephant and her cumulus cloud a sheep.  Gale’s momma tells her that she knows that she can do it.  She stands before the guardians and is asked to create a cumulous cloud and out comes a tugboat shaped cloud and then a dog.  She started to rain.  The guardians asked her more about her cloud shapes and told her that she was a Daydream cloud and her job was to make cloud “shapes the world can dream on.”  The front cover calls the book “Pixar Animation Studios Artist Showcase” and the illustrations definitely have the unique, world-building feel of a Pixar movie.  The cloud characters are beautifully and distinctly drawn with muted colors and great imagination.  Picture book readers and Pixar fans alike will find much to love in this sweet daydream of a story.
