The Dragon Lantern by Alan Gratz - ADVISABLE

Gratz, Alan The Dragon Lantern (A League of Seven Novel), 326 pages.  Starscape (TOR), 2015.  $18.

Content: G (some fighting, but not graphic).

Archie, Hachi and Fergus are now part of the League of Seven - so they believe.  Scaling the Cahokia of the Clouds, they manage to retrieve the Dragon Lantern - only to have it stolen by Kitsune, a foxed-eared girl who can cast illusions.  Archie must part with his friends in order to chase her down and retrieve the Lantern, but his friends have another important mission to follow - who killed Hachi’s father an other so many years ago?  The friends will find other allies along the way, but they will also uncover very dangerous secrets and betrayals.

I have not read the first League if Seven book, but I wasn’t lost or confused.  Instead, I thoroughly enjoyed a mysterious, adventure-packed steampunk novel written for a younger and middle audience.  I know steampunk has really caught on fire for children, but know your audience and your students.
