Tom Gates: Excellent Excuses and other good stuff by L.Pichon -OPTIONAL

Pichon, L. Tom Gates: Excellent Excuses and other good stuff 337 pgs. Candlewick, 2011. $12.99
Tom has a band called the DogZombies and its on his mind quite a bit, making homework and concentrating in school a challenge. Tom and Derek are holding tryouts for a drummer and trying to get ready for their first gig. But always in the way is the principal, a toothache, homework, and especially Tom’s annoying big sister Delia.
This book is told in journal style and is a quick read despite the number of pages. Honestly, this book wasn’t my sense of humor and I didn’t enjoy reading it at all. Then again, I am grown up! I think fans of diary of a wimpy kid would read this and like it just fine, that being said, I probably wouldn’t seek this series out to add to my school library. The characters and the world just didn’t have a well developed feel, maybe much of the groundwork was laid out in the first book: then again this book is not labeled as a series, although it is.
EL –OPTIONAL Reviewer: Stephanie Elementary School Librarian & Author.

This whole series is really popular in my library; when I get ARCs, I use them to bribe students. They are very British and make me hungry for caramel wafers! I like them more than Wimpy Kid but not as much as Big Nate.
