MAX the Brave by Ed Vere- ESSENTIAL

Vere, Ed MAX the Brave. PICTURE BOOK. Sourcebooks, 2015. $16.99. Content: G.

Max the Cat is BRAVE.  He is so brave that he spends all of his time chasing mice.  But first he must find out what a mouse looks like.  Mouse goes on a fun filled adventure while searching for a mouse.  He encounters a fly, a fish, an elephant, some birds, and a rabbit all of which tell him that they are not a mouse, but they did see a mouse recently running past.  When Cat finally encounters a mouse, the mouse is smart and says, “Who me? No certainly not, I’m a Monster! But I did just see Mouse asleep over there…” Mouse points in the direction of a very large and very real monster.  Under the impression that the sleeping monster is truly a mouse, he tries everything he can to wake him so that he can chase him.

The story has an unexpected and fun ending.  The illustrations are bold and bright and bring the reader into each page.  The artist creates the illustrations of brightly colored backgrounds which make this book unique and fun.
