Let's Have a Parade! by Erica Silverman -- ADVISABLE

Silverman, Erica Let's Have a Parade! (Lana's World), illustrated by Jess Golden. EARY READER. Green Light Readers (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), 2015. $3.99. Content: G.

Energetic and imaginative, Lana is dying to have a parade. Unfortunately it's raining, so her more-practical family members all refuse to participate -- until Lana moves her parade indoors and begins marching up and down the hallway. She's having so much fun, how can everyone not join in?

The text has a nice rhythm, and the illustrations have a fun, lively feel that really brings the story to life. While it's difficult to figure out exactly where Lana's imagination begins and reality ends, that's fairly typical for children her age, so it's easier to roll with the uncertainty. Fanciful children who've ever felt hemmed-in by more grounded elders are especially likely to relate to Lana's plight.
