If you Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t! by Elise Parsley –ADVISABLE

Parsley, Elise If you Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t! Little Brown,  2015. $17.00 PICTURE BOOK
Magnolia decides to bring something unexpected for show and tell on nature day. When the other kids bring sticks and birds nests, she brings an Alligator. At first she is pretty happy about it, but as the Alligator causes increasing levels of mischief and keeps getting Magnolia in more and more trouble, she finds herself regretting her decision.
This is a great book for the start of the school year to introduce Rules to the students. Its great because the student in the story isn’t goofing off and we can blame all the trouble on another creature, so we can talk about rules without being so punitive. I also like The Day My Mom Came to Kindergarten by Maureen Fergus for this as well. The illustrations are wonderful; big, bright, fun, and full of variety.
