Eat, Leo! Eat! by Caroline Adderson- OPTIONAL

Adderson, Caroline. Eat, Leo! Eat!, PICTURE BOOK. Kids Can Press, 2015. $16.95. Every Sunday afternoon Leo and his whole family meet at his Nonna’s house to eat. Everyone else always loves to eat Nonna’s food, but Leo just isn’t interested. Nonna begins to tell Leo stories to go along with the different types of pasta she serves each day. The story continues on each Sunday and Leo begins to want to sit and eat without being cajoled. He wants to hear more of the story! Eventually, everyone else in the family wants to hear the rest of the story too. This is a creative story about how to get a young child to eat. The illustrations are unique, but may not be appealing to most readers. I found myself wondering if perhaps they were created by a child. My favorite part of the book was a page at the back that described the different types of pasta used in the story, and how to pronounce them. I think that shows that the story itself was a bit lacking. Content: G. EL (K-3), EL-Optional. Reviewed by: Shay, School Librarian
