While We Run by Karen Healey - OPTIONAL

Healey, Karen  While We Run (When We Wake, #2), 327 pgs.  Little, Brown and Company, 2014.  $18.00  Content: Language: PG-13 (8 swears); Violence: R; Mature Content: PG-13.

Abdi has been captured by the Australian government and is being manipulated (through pain and torture), to encourage all Australians to donate money to build a space craft.  The space craft will allow people who have been frozen to travel to a distant planet and live where there are more resources, but what the government isn’t telling its people is that adults aren’t waking up from the frozen state.  Abdi and his girlfriend, Tegan (the only person who has ever been successfully revived) escape the government's control and try to stop the deaths.

This is an interesting and dark dystopian novel.  The characters are hard to relate to, but their story is compelling.  The violence is disturbing and grotesque making it hard to recommend, and the story alone is still only optional.

 HS-OPTIONAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
