The One by Kiera Cass-OPTIONAL

Cass, Kiera, The One. Pgs. 323. HarperTeen, 2014. Language: G, Mature Content: PG, Violence: PG

After a rebel attack hits the castle, America won the heart of the kingdom through her bravery and strong character. The last of 4 remaining girls, continues to compete for Maxon’s heart. The king, however, is doing everything he can to make sure Maxon doesn't pick her. In addition, there are other challenges that are causing her problems: her father’s death, getting shot by the rebels outside the city, and her ever-tangled relationships with the other contestants. Can American and Maxon’s relationship withstand the pressures of the rebels and the competition? Will America and Maxon stay together or will she lose everything she’s been working for?

Although the character relationships are melodramatic and hardly believable, the plot is intense, fun, and engaging. Readers who have enjoyed the other three books, may find the end slightly disappointing, but fairly satisfying. MS, HS. OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Jessica M,, Library Media Specialist, Olympus Jr. High.
