Firefight by Brandon Sanderson-ADVISABLe

Sanderson, Brandon, Firefight. Pgs. 419. Random House, 2015. $18.99. Language: G, Mature Content: PG-13, Violence: PG-13

After defeating Steelheart, David and the other Reckoners are trying to keep Newcago safe. When the defeat of another Calamity-caused High Epic drives them to Babilar, a city ran by Regalia, David wonders if the group has taken on more than they can handle. A water manipulator, Regalia can appear at will in any body of water. She is plotting the destruction of her city with the help of another epic known as Obliteration. With time running out and a lot at stake, David enlists the help of a former ally turned enemy, Megan aka “Firefight.” Mysterious to the core, David can’t tell if she’s trying to help him or is on Regalia’s side. David believes if he can get through to Megan and Regalia, he might be able to make a difference, but the other Reckoners disagree. Can David to save Babilar? Is there hope for saving the epics? Are they all truly evil?

This fast-pace sequel to Steelheart, is well developed and engaging. The characters are enjoyable and complex. The dynamics between them helps suggest to the reader that no one’s the ideal hero or villain. The plot twists and turns are unpredictable and add a lot of depth to the plot. Fans of the first books who enjoy superheroes, fantasy, adventure, and mystery will enjoy reading this book and will surprised by the ending. Recommended for most library collections.
