Murphy, Mary Are You My Mommy? Candlewick Press, 2015. $6.99.  Lift the Flaps Board Book.  Content: G. Little puppy has lost his mommy.  He asks several animals if “you are my mommy?” Each animal responds that they are not his mommy, but then take the time to introduce little puppy to their baby.  With each introduction, the mommy uses the correct term such as sheep/lamb, horse/foal, etc.  This book is a great way to introduce toddlers to proper names instead of “baby duck” etc.  Each page has a lift-the-flap where the baby animal is hiding. This provides an opportunity for the reader to play a guessing game with the listener.  The illustrations are simple and childlike and draw the reader into each page.  The ending of the story shares the reunion of little puppy with his own mommy.  This is a sweet, tender book that will be loved by many.
