Edison’s Alley by Shusterman and Elfman - ESSENTIAL

Shusterman, Neal and Eric Elfman Edison’s Alley, 250 p. Disney, 2015.  $17.  Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

Nick and his friends have almost re-collected all of Nikola Tesla’s inventions, but there are ina  race with the Accelerati to reclaim the final few items.  Dr. Jorgenson, the Accelerati’s leader is ruthless enough to do anything to beat Nick and keep him from realizing Tesla’s dream of free energy for the world.  This includes establishing his own spy within the friends’ ranks, convincing Nick to trust someone who should not be trusted, and resort to threats against Nick’s family.

Shusterman and Elfman have constructed another deft and engaging novel in this series.  I am always delighted at the creativity involved in all of Shusterman’s books.  It would be so much fun to introduce a class to the different inventions that will be assembled to create the F.R.E.E. and then challenge them to create their own.
