Sick Simon by Dan Krall –ADVISABLE

Krall, Dan Sick Simon 48 pgs, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers., 2015. $17.99 PICTURE BOOK
Simon is super sick, but very determined to go to school and not miss a thing. He spreads his germs everywhere and gradually the other students and teacher are coming down with the flu, and unlike sick Simon, are staying home. School isn't quite as much fun without anyone there!
Simon must learn to battle germs and take care of his health.
The students will love this book for its gross out factor, with lots of images of drippy and flying snot. The lesson here is to wash your hands, use a tissue, and stay home if you are sick. Who doesn’t like that!? The only problem is that ‘staying home’ isn’t usually a students choice, often dictated by parents ability to be able to stay home or get child care at the last minute. No sense in making a child feel guilty for something that they can’t control. That concern aside, many younger students love school and just like sick Simon would proclaim health to be able to come, so I would still add this book to my collection.
