Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress by Christine Baldacchino - - ADVISABLE

Baldacchino, Christine Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress, illustrated by Isabelle Malenfant, PICTURE BOOK 32 pgs. Groundwood Books, 2014. $16.95.

Morris has a great imagination, and he loves school! He loves to paint and do puzzles, have snacks and sing, but best of all Morris likes to dress up.  There is a great tangerine dress that makes amazing sounds when he walks.  He’s tried on all the dress up shoes, too and his favorite ones make a click click sound. But when the other kids say mean things and won’t play with him,  Morris stays home from school and draws.  Will the kids accept this boy who likes to dress up?

This is a great book about gender stereotypes.  The illustrations are as fun as the story, the tangerine dress is practically a character and his support people (his mom and his cat) are great.  This book is a lot of fun and can lead to some great discussions.   EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE  Lisa Librarian
